Academic Group Project
Electric Postie Bike CAD Development
A collaborative university CAD project developing an electric postie bike concept through mechanical component modelling, assembly integration, virtual prototyping and preliminary engineering analysis.
Project Summary
Collaborative development with a defined individual contribution.
The project combined team-based vehicle development with focused responsibility for selected front-end mechanical components.
- Project type
- Academic group project
- Project year
- 2021
- Software
- SolidWorks
- Project focus
- Mechanical CAD, assembly integration, material selection and preliminary FEA
- Contribution
- Handlebar, front suspension and hand-brake components
My contribution focused on the handlebar, front suspension and hand-brake components, including CAD modelling, assembly integration, material selection and preliminary finite element analysis.
The complete vehicle was developed collaboratively as a university group project. Only the individual contribution described above should be interpreted as personal project work.
01 · Project Concept
Early Team Concept
The early concept established the overall vehicle arrangement, storage position, rider layout and major component locations before detailed CAD development.
02 · CAD Assembly
Full Assembly Development
Individual parts and subassemblies were developed in SolidWorks and combined into a complete virtual prototype to review the overall form, component positioning and assembly relationships.
03 · Preliminary Engineering Analysis
Handlebar and Front-Tube Stress Review
A preliminary SolidWorks Simulation study was used to review the stress distribution of the handlebar and front-tube design under an assumed loading condition.
This analysis was completed for academic design development and does not constitute statutory certification or independent engineering verification.
04 · Material and Environmental Review
Material and Environmental Considerations
Material selection was also reviewed using estimated carbon footprint, energy consumption, air acidification, water eutrophication and material cost indicators.
Final Project Summary
Project Outcome
The project produced a complete virtual vehicle assembly and supported the development of individual mechanical components through CAD modelling, assembly integration, material comparison and preliminary simulation.
